Gavin certainly makes a difference as the longest serving team member at Bruce Mellick Optometry.
W.A. born Gavin completed a 4-year apprenticeship in the manufacturing and fitting of prescription lenses in Perth. This means that he can turn a block of glass into a spectacle lens. On completion of his apprenticeship he was appointed Laboratory Manager at Optical Products and worked in similar capacity for 7 years, at other lens laboratories in Perth.
While on holidays in Cairns, a 24-year-old Gavin fell in love with the Cairns life style and secured a position at an Earlville commercial optical outlet. In 1999 Gavin joined us at Bruce Mellick Optometry so that he could enjoy delivering better personal service and fitting quality frames and lenses.

Marina joined our team in 2003 and puts visual performance first and enjoys the challenge of sourcing the best possible spectacle and contact lens options for you. Before all new eyewear is delivered to our patients Marina ensures all lens orders meet our high expectations. Marina also enjoys the clinical aspects of contact lens teaching, visual fields, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography and digital photography.
Marina enjoys spending time at home and in the garden with her partner and son.
Annett grew up in Germany. She started a 3-year apprenticeship in 1991 as an optical dispenser. In 1997 Annett continued to study a further 2.5 years in Cologne to become a qualified ophthalmic Optometrist. This qualification would have enabled her to own and operate an optical business in Germany; however, a holiday to Cairns in 2003 changed her path. We are very fortunate that Annett was able to join our team in 2008. Annett is fascinated by the way a frame can enhance a face and loves guiding people in frame selection to enhance their complexion and facial features. She also enjoys the clinical aspects such as performing visual fields, topography and taking digital photos of the back of the eyes.
Annett delights in everything Cairns has to offer, including diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and exploring the rainforests. She loves dancing, sailing, meeting with friends and spending time with her husband and son.
